The South Downs Way
I usually pootle about up and down the South Downs Way, around Brighton,
which is a fantastic resource to
have on your doorstep, and as easy or hard as you want to make it.

version of the map with distances between points and a height profile,

GPS
You're not likely to get lost on the Southdowns Way, but having GPS is fun.,
and you can use it to find out your
exact distances, time taken etc., and with Memory Map you can feed the data back
into the main program and
see a 3D map of your travels. As
you'd expect from a bargain bin guy like me I
got my GPS cheap. I use a touch
screen phone with Memory Map installed, and a GPS receiver (smaller than a
matchbox), both of which cost me
less than £80. I also get a touch screen phone out of the deal, which has
Windows Media Player on it and plays
MP3s, videos etc. It also has has Wi Fi, can be used as portable computer etc.
etc. If you're interested in me find
ing you one of these get in touch .
